When I was asked to run the Land Rover Life Club stand at York Land Rover show this year, I was only too happy to do so. I’ve never ran a stand before, but was reassured that Ian, who was on the Series 123 Club stand next to us would be on hand to lend assistance if needed.
Organising members for the stand was a simple case of popping a notification in the group and seeing who wanted to show up. RCM 4×4, who organise the show, are relaxed when it comes to tickets so it was just a case of knowing numbers and see who turned up.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to stop overnight. This didn’t matter; I turned up on Saturday to a stand that was already organised by Ian. This was likely a good thing, considering however I did it would trigger his OCD and have to be changed anyway. [Editors Note – Rude!] The important thing was the stand was packed with an amazing turn out of members, and we looked excellent! At one point, we have three L405 Range Rover’s lined up – can you spot the differences between them?

The show itself was as good as I remember it from two years ago. There were plenty of interesting vehicles on display. The Series 123 Club had a fantastically restored Forward Control, which turned out to be chassis number 1! I do have a soft spot for FC’s though, but I was pleased to see it win an award on Sunday. One of my other favourites was a defender with a digger on the back as it was unusual. There were plenty of other lovely vehicles on display, each with their own story and most truly loved by their keepers.

There is no show ring at York, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The usual mix of auto-jumble, stalls and traders were there, and there was the bonus of a remote control Land Rover off-road course too. Maybe this is the way I manage to get that Forward Control I keep going on about without having to shell out a lot of money… A thought for later pondering I think.
Above – LRLife friends, Tomcat Motorsport had this amazing Tomcat 100″ on display at their stand. It is being transformed to be used as an Academy vehicle.
As always, the best part of the show was the people. It was good to catch up with old friends, and make some new ones as well. Not only did top socialising happen, it was all done in the name of charity. The amount raised over the weekend was £15’662 for Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue, which is amazing. All in all, it was a good show with a chilled atmosphere, and we shall definitely be back next year!
