What a way to end the show season! The Land Rover Owner’s show certainly has a reputation of having a lot to offer both visitors and exhibitors; this year was no exception. I’ve never been to the LRO show before and was excited to see how it differed from the other events this year.

There was so much to see. From club stands to stalls, the display arena and the mud trial track as well as more food stands you can possibly visit. The auto jumble was the largest I have seen too – and had a good amount to offer, not just parts for Defenders, as I have found with previous ones I have been to. I even managed to score a fair bit of ‘loot’ for my series 3 rebuild, which put a smile on my face.

 The show was busy too. Some of the ones we have visited this year have felt quiet, but there was a good amount of people wandering around. The decent weather might have had something to do with that.

All the club stands had plenty on offer too. A wide range of vehicles, both familiar and new had turned out to create a great display for anyone to see. Everyone was friendly, welcoming and eager to talk about their pride and joy.

The Land Rover Life Community stand was busy too. A plethora of different vehicles were on display, from old to new, Series to Range Rover – even two, yes two! Freelander 1 Commercials. Something of a rare beast these days I hear. There was no shortage of visitors either, we too are a friendly bunch eager to talk about our vehicles and the set ups we used. It was the solo roof tent’s maiden voyage that weekend, and it too had no shortage of attention.

There were familiar faces, and new ones too. Wrong Glasses Kat and James, along with Mark Davidson all joined our stand for the first time. The old familiars were there too, and the conversation flowed most of the weekend. Of course, for me, these events are made all the better for the people I go with. This time, Spare Dave only visited during the day on Saturday and so I was able to join the BBQ cook out Saturday evening. Ian Garner provided the meat, I brought the cheese, Jo supplied an amazing medley of cous-cous, tomatoes and assorted greenery and OG Dave concocted a wonder of garlic mushrooms and fried potatoes. By the end of it, we had a feast and were thoroughly stuffed.

Due to this, we missed the light show on the Saturday night. Food coma and a good supply of beverages meant that we were unable to face the long walk from one end of the field to the other. I saw some flashing lights in the distance, and a great cloud of dust; I am sure it was wonderful for those that saw it.

Unfortunately, I had to leave the show early than I would have liked on the Sunday, so I did not partake in the axe throwing rematch. From what I have heard, no one got axed, so it must have been good.

All in all, the show was a great deal of fun. I shall definitely do my best to attend again in the future – maybe next year, the series 3 will be on the display!
