June 2025 Edition
In the June Edition, Ian tells us that Land Rover season is well underway!

As I write this I have just returned home from the Global Gathering and the Gaydon Land Rover show, you can read about both in Debbie Forster’s article on the main page. A few weeks before I was at the Bolton Abbey Series 1 gathering and again you can read more about this in my article too. In reality what, this means to us people Living Our Best Land Rover Life, is that the Land Rover season is well and truly underway.
What I find fascinating about the Land Rover crowd is the eclectic mix of people who are part of the community, and the Land Rover Life community is no different. We have people from completely different backgrounds, people who perhaps would never mix in other circles. Yet, when the sun goes down, the beer flows and the firepit is lit it’s a great social leveller. We come together and have banter, tell stories of our adventures and in most cases our miss adventures, and generally have a right old laugh. Mike telling us of this great underground cave he went too – like there’s an outdoor cave? – was a great example of the banter shared between the group and is perhaps a statement we will never let him live down. Another group member spotted me enroute on the M1 in grid lock and told the world I was the cause of this bad traffic around Leicester, much to peoples (and my own for that matter) amusement. None of its personal, we are all fair game for a good old ribbing.
But there lies the crux. The glue of the community. It isn’t the Land Rovers, they were just the common denominator, it’s the people. Over the weekend whilst chatting to old friends and new acquaintances I heard many stories of how the Land Rover community came together to help those in need. From chasing a 6v battery charger around Normandy, to helping a stranded strangers Land Rover on the side of the road, to dropping everything to head to Lancashire with car trailer to recover a friend whose Land Rover was having a toddler tantrum. Everyone in the community will help complete strangers out, its what we do. As I said, travel to Lancashire. For a Yorkshire man that is bravery indeed.
As I go to events and gatherings throughout the year, I like meeting new people. At our Global Gathering Stand we had new group member Dave join us. Or Spare, Spare Dave as we called him as we have a gaggle of Daves in our group. And for the record that is the correct term for a collective of Daves. Maybe. First time we met him was Friday and by Sunday he was like an old friend.
There are still plenty of opportunities to come and be part of our community. We have a club stand at the Land Rover Monthly show at Malvern, we have our own Waterside Weekend in Derbyshire and towards the end of the year we will be the Belvoir Castle for the LRO show. We have also started to plan a Christmas gathering too. If you have found this article online and are not a member, feel free to join our community by following the link https://lrlife.co.uk/contact/
For Series enthusiasts, the Land Rover Life team will be putting our Series 123 club hats on with the Helmsley Steam Rally, the Club rally and the York Land Rover. There are many other events all around the UK too. If you are interested visit their website www.series123club.co.uk/ or better still join (for Free!) by emailing membership@series123club.co.uk
So, remember, when your pride and joy isn’t playing ball and you are frustrated, Land Rover Life isn’t just about the vehicles its about the people. Or Pride of Land Roverists as I like to think of them.
