This Month Ian discussed reliability and hacking

You may have read that there has been a large security breech in websites that run PHP, as our does, which has meant LRLife.co.uk access, at best, has been hit and miss over the last few weeks. However, hopefully, our website issues are finally behind us and you will be able to actually read this blog. It’s been quite a difficult time here in LRLIFE HQ battling with hackers and suspect customer service but fingers crossed that is all in the past, and I’d like to apologise for any inconvenience.

So, our Land Rovers, you never know when they will go wrong and require attention. And when they do, it does seem to be at a most inconvenient time. We have several posts recently on the socials about Land Rovers deciding just to stop working. No rhyme, no reason, they just felt it was time to have a moment.

My own experience in this is vast, but more recently it was Eeyore that decided to be troublesome. As you can read elsewhere in this issue, we had an impromptu gathering at the motorist, and I decided to take Eeyore as I was missing the howl of the V8. After a lovely drive there, I parked up opposite Admin Emma, only to be told he was leaking. A quick check revealed petrol was exiting very quickly. The cause? a fuel pipe had moved and melted against the exhaust. I have had Eeyore for a fair few years, and he could have done this at any time, but no. He waited until it was £1.70 a litre.

Luckily the LRLIFE bunch carry all sorts of things in their Land Rovers and soon the offending section of the fuel pipe had been removed and a new section jubilee clipped in. I did however smell very strongly of petrol as I got covered whilst doing the repair. Putting comments like “He is actually doing work on his own vehicle for a change” to one side it was nice to wear something expensive for a change.

Then there was another LRLIFE member whose 101” Forward control decided to start leaking past the hub seal. It hadn’t moved much on the last 2 years, but that day it just decided to leak. Sounds familiar?

Then, to top it off, Admin Rich was preparing his 110 “Bob” for his MOT when for no logical reason at all, the indicators and gauges all had a moment and ceased functioning. Getting your Landy MOT ready can be quite involved at the best of times, but Bob decided to make Rich work harder.

Now you could say that this is all part of Land Rover ownership, and indeed it is, but all these events took place in the same week! I don’t want to start a conspiracy theory here, but it was the same week the site got hacked? Coincidence? I’ll let you decide…….

Now how do you put virus protection on a 50 year old Land Rover…
