You want a Range Rover, but you are doing well for yourself, and you want the world to know it. What do you go for? Well in the old days you would get a bespoke Autobiography, but these days you would go for a Range Rover SV. With a range of finishes, interiors and options the SV was the pinnacle of the Range Rover family. I use the word was with intent. There is a new model at the top of the Range Rover family now, and you and I are unlikely to ever have one. It’s not just the estimated £200k starting price that prevents us mere mortals from procuring one, it’s the Land Rovers sales policy. You see, you cannot just go and order a Range Rover SV Ultra, you have to be invited. Yep, JLR seems to have adopted Ferrari’s sales approach for its special models.

So why is this particular Range Rover so special? Well, if you read the marketing information it is billed as “the most exquisite interpretation of Range Rover luxury and distinction”, but there is more to it than that. It is packed with technology including a worlds first ICE System.
Called Electrostatic Sound, it turns your daily drive into a concert venue, by all accounts. With 21 lightweight thin-film transducers in the vehicle the system, and I quote, “ensures every harmonious note and crisp detail puts the occupant in the heart of every performance, reproducing music faithfully as the artist intended” The speakers are mounted in various location including the headlining and seats as well as the more usual locations. The system links 5 bass speaker to the “Body and Soul” Seats to give the ultimate bass experience. Add to this environment, the Sensory Floor, and you have quite a nice place to be whilst you listen to your favourite tunes.

Sticking with the interior, the seats use Land Rovers Ultrafabrics™ in a combination of Orchid White and Cinder Grey, and the trim is finished off on rattan palm veneer. Exterior wise, you have various options, but there is a new hue called Titan Silver which is exclusive to the Ultra and has fine aluminium flakes and “advanced pigment technology”. Wheel wise you are treated to 23” alloys which are a unique design for the Ultra.
Under the bonnet you can chose the P550e Hybrid or the P615 Twin Turbo V8. There is a promise of an all-electric version in the near future.
